D8, HW#5 Deadline Reflection
This week readings were full of helpful information. I enjoyed reading chapter 7. It provided me with different ways of getting my research question more clearer for my targeted audience. I really need to focus more on arguing my topic rather than just giving out information to others. Also, my sentences need better wording or qualifiers.
D8, HW#4 Grammar
This part in the Wadsworth was a great refresher. I usually forget how to use nouns and verbs tgether. Ex. 13.1 helped in getting started in the chapter. I will use this chapters info when writing now and later on for other courses. Like breaking up strings of compound sentences on pg.164. That exercise was confusing.
D8, HW#3 Chapter 7
1) Reporting and Arguing
I wrote a paper on how the desert landscape in the southwest was being destroyed by developers. I felt this paper was more of reporting to my audience instead of arguing my subject. I did not answer my research question as well as I intended. I had no statistics and I did not focus on my research plan. My argument turned out to be more of giving my audience information about the topic in general.
I do have a topic I argue about with family members and friends. The subject is why the U.S. invaded Iraq. I did not write a paper on this topic, but it seems to come up in conversation when ever there is a family party or gathering of somewhat. I have military friends and family in the military. I am always the one against the war while others are for it. We never reach our goal in the argument, but we seem to agree on one thing; we need better leadership in the White House.
2) Generating Response to your research question
This activity was very helpful in putting all my information I found into my research question. I am still working on developing my question to better catch my audience’s attention. The instructor made a good suggestion for my question and that is, why doesn’t the United States have universal health coverage?
I found in my research that there are millions of Americans, which include lots of children, with little or no health coverage at all. Employers do not cover their employees with insurance and employees can’t afford the high cost of health insurance. There are a few states already insuring everyone in their state. I personally have had no coverage for myself and family. I’ve seen family and friends struggle with not having proper care for their children. I need to continue my search on this question and hopefully I can begin to put my research paper together with the good resources I have gathered.
3) Claims, Reasons, Evidence and Warrants
I have not used these four elements in my research structure. I think if I were to put these four elements in play,
4) Developing Rebuttals
I need to add some rebuttals to my research question. There are many people in Congress and working class people who say we don’t need universal coverage. I will gather data on those who are against and find out some reasons why they don’t want insurance for all. That’s where my audience need to be, with the politicians and blue color workers.
5) Using Qualifiers
As I read this passage, it brought some light to my paper where I need to present my sentences more arguably and to be more clear on what is being said about the topic in general. This section will be much help when needed to help enhance my audience .

D8, HW#2, Peer Review Reflection
I read all of the drafts that were turned in. Everyone's topic were very interesting. I specifically liked Jessica's, because I have two teenage kids of my own who both have relationships. Jessica did well in presenting her topic in her overview and then giving plan on where she will get her data. Tedibear had a great beginning in her draft, but will need more info on why the voting age should be lowered. Like my topic, we have a big argument ahead of us. I feel encouraged with where my draft is going by using all of the resources given to me and help from my peers.
D8,HW#1, Peer Review
I reviewed all WP#2 drafts and was unable to add comments because of time. It looks like everyone is on the right track and are coming together on all of their information gathering. Looks like I need to spend more time on my draft so that my layout is better written. Jessica's was very well planned out as she gave allot of data and specific information about abstinence. Good job everyone.

D7,HW#3 Chapter 11
Reading chapter 11 brought out new ideas that I can incorporate into my WP#2 paper. For instance, on pg. 140 and 141, it showed how to use visuals to show the readers data of your topic. Such as tables, graphs, photographs and diagrams can help explain the structure of your information. I tend to use tables and graphs in my research paper as I need to. I will also revise my WP#2 final to have some visual aids in it.

I will be researching the topic of why should everyone in America have health insurance. There are many families in America who are not covered by health insurance. Some reasons why individuals do not have coverage are because they can’t afford it or their employer does not provide benefits for them and simply the government does not issue health insurance to everyone for reasons of their own. Families with kids in particular who need emergency care are not being cared for properly for the fact that they do not have the proper coverage to pay the high cost of medical bills they encounter. A mere doctor’s visit will cost an arm and a leg if they are not covered by health insurance. Many families are forced to pay out of pocket to be cared for by medical staff. America has had this problem for many years and it also seems to come up during presidential elections. Politicians use health insurance to better their chance of being elected and then drop it down on their list when elected. I also have gone through not having insurance for my family and have friends who themselves can not afford the high cost of health insurance. If we can provide millions to fight wars, we should be able to give health care to everyone who can not afford to have good health care for their families.

D6, HW#10 Grammar
Using commas and sentence fragments have always given me trouble. I seem to use them incorrectly when writing and putting sentences together. Reading through part 4 in the Wadsworth handbook helped me see where I need to work on when using the correct pronounctuations. The exercises on pg. 227 and 256 were helpful. Also the four strategies to use on pg. 236 will come in handy. When I visited the Purdue Owl website my security would not allow the page to come up. I finally got in the site and tagged the site to my delicious bookmark.
I went back to wp#1 and revised some fragmented sentences by making them complete sentences and with correct punctuation.

D5,HW#10, Deadline Reflection
As I look back on this weeks assignments, I like to say it was very hectic and time consuming. It was well worth because I learned alot about developindg a plan from chapter 4,pg.19. It explained how to set your data in a organize manner. I also looked at my research terms closely and picked which terms would be of more help to me and which terms I would elimate.
I commented on these two blogs;
Uehara Tomoko and Ryan Mac.

D5,HW#9, Developing a research plan
Some data I will be collecting for this project will be on universal coverage, statistics on uninsured families, working class, affordable insurance, employer not covering workers, politicians wanting universal coverage and states with universal coverage.
I will use the internet, ebrary, newspaper articles, and personnel experiences.
I will try to have all the required assignments done by the due dates on the syllabus.

D5,HW#8, Evaluating Terms
I feel the search terms I used were very useful in gathering necessary information that I will be using in my paper. So far I have not found any terms that I can't use in my research. I will continue to brainstorm other search terms and hope to hear from my peers of any suggestions they may have.
D5,HW#7, List of Terms
The following are some search terms I Brainstormed:
Health care
Universal coverage
Government
Health Insurance
High Cost of Health care
Would like your ideas on other terms to use for this topic.
Thx.

D5, HW#6, Primary or Secondary Research
The purpose of my research is to let those low income working class citizens know they are not alone in their struggle of not having health benefits. Even the student getting through college who can not afford the high premiums of coverage. I hope to share through secondary sources, by giving them quotes from everyday working individuals their stories how they cope with no insurance. Maybe they can get motivated to share their comments with families and friends. Perhaps they can write to their politicians, and let them know the problems with not having coverage. I feel I need to start completing my assignment within the next week. I feel I have gathered enough information by the use of the internet and library. I also have some knowledge of the topic consisering I have gone thruogh not having coverage for my family.
D5,HW#5 Personnel Inventory
I believe when my topic arises in conversation, I tend to hear almost the same arguments. Families can not afford the high cost of getting thier families insured. I think that's why I chose this topic, to do research on why America can't cover everyone. My interest is to let those who are not covered share have some hope that they will someday be able to have health coverage. Many of those I speak to are co-workers who are not covered from the employer and family members that just can't afford to pay the high premiums. Reading pg. 7 brought made my plan of gathering information from the source clearer.

I commented on Amanda Griffith and Tomoko Uehara first drafts.
I learned that my first draft was not filled with enough information to make a good argument for my first draft. They both got started off good and I hope to see the finished product. I would like to spend a lot more time writing my finish paper. It needs to be more interesting for my attended audience.
Kelesia Bomar reviewed my research paper and did a good job. I appreciate the comments she left and I hope to further explain more on my topic for my next draft. Looks like I need to invest more time in researching my subject.

D4,HW#2, Grammar
I don't understand what this assignment is about, only that I skimmed through part 4 in the handbook. The handbook gave many exercises to do and gave alot of useful word hints to use on my research paper. Usually the blue highlighted parts. It was a good review, because my putting sentences together is pretty bad.
D4,HW#1, Reading Reflection
As I read through WP#2 and the handbook, I was able to soak in more helpful hints. In the handbook, chpt 8,pg 114, it talked about how to read without trying to grasp the meaning all at once. For me,I have to read the same paragragh a hundred times before I get it. Once again, the checklist proved to be helpful in my reading. I will need to plan alot better in my next draft. I found using the library to be of good source when doing my research. The computer tips were much help in finding resourches and articles.WP#2 brought up ideas that I needed to read on.Like when reading,I need to pay attention to what the author is saying more closely.
D4,HW#8, Deadline Reflection
Reading this weeks prompts were helpful in finding other ways of researching my paper. The handbook is proving to be a great source in guiding me thru the assignments while at the same time making writing my paper less stressful. Responding to other blogs is a little more work than needed, but it helps to see others are having the same outcomes as me.

Should everyone in America have health coverage? Not everyone in America today has health insurance. I chose this topic for the fact that many families go without coverage and are force to pay out of pocket for medical care. Millions can't afford to be seen by medical staff because of the mere fact that they are in poverty limitations. Doctors will not except poeple in need of emergency care if they do not have proof of insurance. So then families, especially kids are turn away from recieving medical attention.
My research will focused on blue collar families who work hard to provide a living for themselves, but still can't afford to have medical insurance and to recieve health care when needed. I see it firsthand in my own family and co-workers I have talked to. The rise in cost to have medical insurance is so expensive,it makes it hard for low income families to afford coverage for themselves.
I feel my purpose in writing this paper is to raise awareness of the needs of those whose needs are not being met. That brings me back to should everyone be covered in America.
My audience that I will be adressing will be the blue collar workers who don't have health insurance. I would like to raise some issues on why they are not able to afford coverage.
I feel discouraged when someone is turn away from recieving health care because of their lack of insurance resources. I have conversations with friends who do not have coverage for their children and they are forced to pay high medical bills when visiting a doctor or hospital.
I do hope to accomplish my research paper for others to see the need of health insurance for America.

D3, HW#8, Deadline Reflection
My reflections through out these last assignments have filled me with lots of information. I did encounter some difficulties, especially D3,HW#6. I hope to find my way through the various webs and assignments so that I can catch up on my homework. Using the examples in the handbook ,chpt.4,really seem to help get my ideas in order. Will begin to put my paper together soon.

D3, HW#6, WP#1-WP#3
The subject I will be addressing is health Insurance for eveyone in America. This topic is very important to me considering most of my family and co-workers do not have coverage or can't afford the cost of insurance. I will be changing my audience direction to focus on blue collar workers. The context takes place in the US today. There are millions of families without health benefits going to work not knowing when they encounter an emergency.
D3, HW#4, The Audience
Health coverage in America is vital for those who don't have coverage. My research for this topic will be to the politicians and those in government that make our laws that create benefits for our country. I also will try to inform students and families that go without coverage everyday and the effects of not having health insurance.
D3,HW#2 Reasearch Questions
As I research my topic of choice, uninsured families in America, I began to brainstorm some questions that I could use to narrow my research project. The questions that came up in my search are, Why so many uninsured families, Why is health insurance unaffordable for families, Why can’t America cover our kids and should there be universal coverage.
D3,HW#5 Audience Analysis
I will try to reach the politicians who are in charge of making laws that protect our rights to live in good health and reasonable living conditions. I also will try to reach out to those students who are working hard to make a living for them and their families who need health benefits, but can't afford reasonable insurance.
D3,HW#1, Reading Reflection
As I read through chapter 4, I found helpful notes on drafting and revising. The checklist provided much understanding how to write your paper. I especially outlined the checklist on pg.36,4a.It gave me lots of ideas and ease on how to go about revising a paper. On pg. 39,4c, using your word-processing tools was a good tip. I was having some problems thinking on who will be my audience, but as I read WP#3, I feel more close to addressing who will be the targeted audience for my research paper.
D5,HW#1, Reading Reflection
As I read through chapter 4, I found helpful notes on Finding & Tracking Data. On pag. 7,taking a personal inventory provided much help in getting my notes together. It talked about the central issue poeple debate on your topic how you as the author feel about the subject. One suggestion was to get others involved in talking about your topic. I thought the techno tip on pg. 17, was helpful to me ang it gave different sources I was not using in my research paper. The readings are much but they do encourage you with added guidelines and how to go about them.

This week has been overwhelming. I have been trying to keep up with all of the reading and web searching. I am not a wizard when it comes to computers, so I dont know why I took a on-line course. I hope to catch up soon because I need to start writing my research paper. The information that was given to us has been very helpful and interesting. Also the blogs posted were of encouragement to me to continue the class.

D2,HW#8 Focusing your Research
Health insurance is a large topic to research about. I feel that by finding other poeples views I can try to narrow my subject down to a certain question that everyone can relate to. Considering the vast families who do not have insurance, it should not be difficult to come up with a sub-topic for my research.
D2,HW#7 Finding something to say
When I read chapter 2 in the handbook, alot of ideas starting popping in my head. I really liked the chapter on freewriting. I feel by just writing for a few minutes not stop can produce some good stuff. My mind can really wander off on its own when i`m reading, so freewriting helps me keep my ideas on paper, so that I can later come up with things to write about the subject in hand.
D2,HW#5-6 Rhetorical Situation & What`s important to me
I thought the word Kairos was interesting. When I read the meaning of it, i kind of began to understand the meaning. When writing, it is good to know all the right elements in your topic. When is the right moment to make your inputs on the matter can effect your ideas. I hope to connect these two element into my research paper as I begin to write about my topic.
I feel that the subject I will research on Uninsured families in America, will shed some light on how many families live without health insurance. This subject is important not only to me but others who I seem to talk to who do not have insurance.

Health insurance for all families in America is a strong topic that seems to be a very a curious subject to research. I feel right at home with this topic because I have relatives that have no insurance and I see what they go through when they need medical attention. Narrowing this topic can be challenging because of the broad subjects it covers. Researching and brainstorming it can be done.
2) Tanner, J. (2002, January 11). Future job market. CQ Researcher, 12, 1-24. Retrieved July 7, 2007, from CQ Researcher Online, http://library.cqpress.com/cqresearcher/cqresrre2002011100.
Future job market sounds like an interesting topic because of the constant change in work availability. Companies seem to reduce workforce for cheaper labor as other companies move out of the country for the sake of profitability. I feel that researching this topic can bring a concise and informative paper

Our beloved desert landscape is vastly dwindling away. This topic is somewhat interesting to me because I was born here in the Arizona desert and I see the southwest landscape disappearing before my eyes. I see the environment being destroyed by developers just trying to make buck or many bucks for that matter. Much can be debated on this subject, but it can be shorten to bring out the real facts on land being used up for profit.
